Best Spots for Leaves Around Asheville, NC

Mount Mitchell
Entering the parkway off of Highway 74 (also known as Charlotte Hwy), stop by the visitor center on the left and ask about trails and directions toward Mt. Mitchell. The representatives are very helpful and have given this family much advice on good trails for children and pointing us in the direction of amazing views during and not during leaf season. If going to Mt. Mitchell, take a left out of the visitor center and prepare to be amazed!
Known as the highest spot east of the Mississippi, this leave viewing venture will take travelers by famous spots such as Craggy Gardens, and the best part is, there are several visitor centers and the Folk Art center on the way to the Mountain.
Trails at Mt. Mitchell
Once there, picking trails may be difficult. One can choose to park and just walk about a quarter of a mile to the view point or go on a Sherwood forest type hike with wonderful views. It is located across from the Mt. Mitchell Gift Shop and Concession Stand (where one can warm up with coffee, hot chocolate, or apple cider). The trail is easy travel, a bit of a climb, and features some awesome rocks and a few rock caves.
